Tanzania Government has formed a probe commission to inquire into the ill designed operation to evict pastoralists from Usangu basin in Mbarali district to Lindi and Kisarawe districts respectively.
The decision to form the commission is linked to the pressure by land and human rights activists NGOs who challenged the operation as not only ill designed but was also dominated by gross violations of human rights, corruption and loss of pastoralists’ properties like houses, livestock and food reserves.
The NGOs also challenged the government excessive use of force in the eviction and called for immediate stoppage of the ruthless brutality of the state against its own citizens.
